SUMMARY:The Queen's Six
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, October 20\, 2018 8:00pm\nTickets will be available at the door beginning at 7:00pm. \nThe Queen’s Six were established in 2008\, the 450th anniversary of the accession of Queen Elizabeth I\, from whom they take their name. \nBased at Windsor Castle\, all the members of The Queen’s Six are also Lay Clerks of St George’s Chapel\, whose homes lie within the Castle walls. The Chapel Choir\, which consists of boy trebles and twelve professional adult male singers\, performs some eight services a week\, as well as at private and state occasions\, often before the Royal Family. \n“The close musical rapport that develops when six men sing together every day\, as the Queen’s Six do\, is very much in evidence on this\, their impressive debut album\, recorded at St George’s Chapel\, Windsor\, where they are lay clerks in the choir. They bring seamless blend and balance to music from the reign of Elizabeth I\, from whom they take their name. “ – Stephen Pritchard – The Guardian \nProgram (subject to change): \nHaec dies Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (c. 1525-94)\nFactum est silentium Felice Anerio (c. 1560-1614) \nCantate Domino Giovanni Gabrieli (c. 1555-1612)\nCrucifixus Antonio Lotti (1667–1740) \nAgnus Dei from Missa Brevis Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina\nCantate Domino Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643) \nEin’ feste Burg Luther/Hassler/Praetorius/Bach\nSelig sind die Toten Heinrich Schütz (1585-1672) \nHaec dies William Byrd (c. 1540-1623)\nFactum est silentium Richard Dering (c. 1580-1630) \n~~~~~~~~Intermission~~~~~~~~ \nO bone Jesu Loyset Compère (c. 1445-1518)\nHelas Madam King Henry VIII (1491-1547)\nQuam pulcra es Richard Sampson (d. 1554) \nA virgin and mother John Marbeck (c. 1510-85)\nIf ye love me Thomas Tallis (c. 1505-85) \nYe sacred muses William Byrd\nO Lord\, make thy servant Elizabeth our Queen William Byrd\nRemember not Lord our offences Henry Purcell (1659-95) \nChristus factus est Hernando Franco (1532-85)\nLaudate Dominum Miguel Mateo de Dallo y Lana (c. 1650-1705)

SUMMARY:Tenebrae
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, March 10\, 2018 8:00pm\nPath of Miracles\nNigel Short\, Director\n\n  \n \nJoby Talbot’s Path of Miracles was the first major work commissioned by the award-winning professional vocal ensemble\, Tenebrae\, in 2005 and having received high acclaim (“an evocative odyssey” – The Times) returns this year for a US tour. To accompany its revival\, Tenebrae has commissioned a unique new choral work by Owain Park\, Footsteps\, which allows Tenebrae to perform alongside local choirs and marks Tenebrae’s fifteenth-anniversary season. \nThe Path of Miracles world premiere was due to take place on 7th July 2005 at St Bartholomew-the-Great\, yet this was the day of the London bombings. The premiere was cancelled and rescheduled for ten days later and its inaugural performance became a powerful act of reflection and contemplation. \nPath of Miracles is a work based on the most enduring route of Catholic pilgrimage\, the great Pilgrimage to Santiago. Singing this work by candlelight in the magnificent setting of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis guarantees Tenebrae at its dramatic best .

SUMMARY:The King's Singers
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, November 10\, 2017 8:00pm\n\n\n\nPart of The King’s Singers 50th Anniversary Season and Cathedral Concerts 25th Anniversary Season\n“Their vocal production was effortless\, stylistically varied and beautifully blended\, even in the most complex polyphony.” Washington Post (DC\, USA) \n  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n \n  \nThe King’s Singers were officially born on May 1st 1968\, formed by six recently-graduated choral scholars from King’s College\, Cambridge. Their vocal line-up was (by chance) two countertenors\, a tenor\, two baritones and a bass\, and the group has never wavered from this formation since. \nWhat really distinguished the group in its early years was its musical diversity. The King’s Singers were a weekly fixture on prime-time television\, celebrating popular music never usually touched by choral ensembles\, and their unique British charm\, combined with their musical craft\, captured audiences’ hearts the world over. The group has consistently been welcomed on the world’s great stages throughout its history – from London’s Royal Albert Hall to the Opera House in Sydney or New York’s Carnegie Hall – as well as being ambassadors for musical excellence across the globe. Two Grammy® Awards\, an Emmy® Award\, and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame sit among the numerous accolades bestowed upon the group. \nThis love of diversity has always fuelled The King’s Singers’ commitment to creating new music. A panoply of commissioned works by many of the supreme composers of our times – including Sir John Tavener\, Toru Takemitsu\, John Rutter\, Luciano Berio\, Nico Muhly\, György Ligeti and Eric Whitacre – sits alongside countless bespoke arrangements in the group’s extensive repertoire. The group is determined to spread the joy of ensemble singing\, and leads workshops and residential courses all over the world each season. \nThe world may have changed a lot in the fifty years since the original King’s Singers came together\, but today’s group is still charged by the same lifeblood – one that wants to radiate the joy singing brings every day\, and that want to give life to audiences with their virtuosity and vision for an exciting musical future. \n\n\n\nPatrick Dunachie Countertenor\nTimothy Wayne-Wright Countertenor\nJulian Gregory Tenor\nChristopher Bruerton Baritone\nChristopher Gabbitas Baritone\nJonathan Howard Bass \n  \nProgram \n\nShir hamma’alot le David – Salamone Hebreo Rossi (c. 1570 – 1630)\nSurge\, propera amica mea – Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina (c. 1525 – 1594)\nNigra sum\, sed formosa – Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina\nSicut lilium inter spinas – Giovanni Pierluigi da PalestrinaLagrimas de mi Consuelo – Juan Vasquez (c. 1500 – c. 1560) \nThe Prayer of King Henry VI – Dr Henry Ley (1887 – 1962)\nIn Manus Tuas – Thomas Tallis (c. 1505 – 1585)\nSing joyfully – William Byrd (c.1539 – 1623) \nVersa est in luctum – Alonso Lobo (c. 1555 – 1617) \nBasiez-moi! – Josquin des Prez (c. 1450 – 1521)\nPaisible domaine – Orlandus Lassus (c. 1532 – 1594)\nRevecy venir du Printans – Claude le Jeune (c. 1528 – 1600) \nEl fuego – Mateo Flecha (1481 – 1553) \nIntermission \nMusica Dei donum – Orlandus Lassus (c. 1532 – 1594) \nDas ist je gewißlich wahr – Heinrich Schütz (1585 – 1672)\nInnsbruck\, ich muss dich lassen – Heinrich Isaac (c. 1450 – 1517)\nFrisch auf\, last uns ein gut’s Glas Wein – Hans Leo Hassler (1564 – 1612) \nLa Guerre – Clément Janequin (c. 1485 – 1558) \n \nWelcomed by

SUMMARY:Friar Alessandro
DESCRIPTION:The Voice from Assisi\nFriday\, May 12 at 8:00pm\n“Behind every successful tenor is … a story. Pavarotti was a larger than life character who understood how to popularize sometimes difficult music. Bocelli overcame his blindness to become a superstar and has managed to bridge the divide between popular and classical music. Friar Alessandro fits very well into this tradition.”\nFrom “The Singing Friar”\nBritish TV Documentary \n  \n \n  \nWhen you meet Friar Alessandro Brustenghi you realize straight away there is something beatific\, possibly angelic about him. Slight and sweet in his brown Friar’s garb. When we meet in the Porziuncola-Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli/St. Mary of the Angels in Assisi he talks about the troubled passionate saint with empathy. \nLike St. Francis\, Friar Alessandro\, 34\, has multiple missions and was conflicted in his past. His journey to his final vow\, was a precarious soul search\, like St. Francis himself. \nFor a long time his music and his faith were hanging in the balance. Fortunately the release of Voice of Assisi shows that ultimately neither was sacrificed. His voice is pure and pain soaked. The songs heartbreakingly beautiful. Alessandro’s eyes have a permanent twinkle. In his voice you hear the essence of who he is\, of being filled with love. \nRead More about Friar Alessandro \nSupport for this concert provided by Charles & Shirley Drury & Family and Schlapprizzi Law

The Catholic and Anglican composers are from the renaissance period\, the orthodox are modern. It is interesting to hear how the sacred mood is similar between these composers\, yet it is achieved by quite different stylistic means. This difference is fascinating to me\, not least because these texts are central to every Christian of every period.” Peter Phillips

SUMMARY:The Boston Camerata
DESCRIPTION:The Play of Daniel\nTuesday\, January 31\, 2017 at 8:00pm\n  \n \n  \nThe Ludus Danielis\, or Play of Daniel\, is a powerful medieval mystery play composed eight centuries ago in Beauvais\, France. \nThe Boston Camerata’s recent new production of The Play of Daniel\, edited\, staged and directed by Anne Azéma\, renews and transforms this classic work of early music theater. It brings together music and movement\, theater and liturgy\, light and shadow\, to retell the biblical story of the young prophet for today’s audiences. Acclaimed by the public and selected as “best of the year” by Boston critics\, Camerata’s Daniel is now coming to St. Louis. \nThe Boston Camerata will be joined by singers from Rosati-Kain High School and Webster University in this one of a kind theatrical event. \n“Lyrical and poignant … timeless spiritual message.”\n–- The Boston Globe \n“Unexpected energy and immediacy … memorable”\n–- The Boston Musical Intelligencer \n“Enchanting … a pure delight”\n–- The Boston Classical Review \n
