H. H. Parry (1848-1918) \nThe Choir of New College\, Oxford is one of the most celebrated and acclaimed choral groups of the UK. When William of Wykeham founded his ‘New’ College in 1379\, a choral foundation was at its heart\, and daily chapel services have been a central part of college life ever since. The Choir comprises sixteen boy choristers and fourteen adult clerks; the latter a mixture of professional singers and undergraduate members of the College. The pattern set by New College Choir in the 1380s was later adopted by other foundations\, and may be seen as the prototype for all choirs of its kind. The boy choristers benefit not only from the matchless education provided by daily contact with superb music\, or the satisfaction of performing at a professional level\, but also from generous bursaries at New College School. \nBeyond Oxford\, New College Choir is often to be heard in concert around the world\, and on broadcasts and recordings. A wide range of music is represented in its discography; it was the first choral foundation to establish its own recording label\, Novum\, and has also recorded for CRD\, Decca\, Erato and Hyperion. The choir has released a number of CDs since Robert Quinney’s arrival as director. In summer 2016 John Blow: Symphony Anthems was Editor’s Choice for the September issue of Gramophone\, and shortlisted for an award in the early music category. In many cases this is due to the jealous guarding of the music by a series of Popes\, who would not allow certain pieces to pass beyond the walls of the chapel. Such is the case\, famously\, of Gregorio Allegri’s Miserere\, which acquired such a mystique through the Sistine Chapel’s monopoly that tracing its journey has become one of the most intriguing musical problems of our time. \n\nThis program allows us a privileged glimpse into the heyday of the Vatican of the high Renaissance. The power and prestige of the Papacy was at its apex\, and before long the Council of Trent would spur liturgists and artists to the heights of the Counter-Reformation. In this spirit\, the continuity in this program is provided by that most prolific of polyphonists\, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina. Jennifer earned a Doctor of Musical Arts Degree in Organ Performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester\, NY where she studied with David Higgs. She holds a Master of Music Degree in Piano Performance from the Mannes College of Music and received the Bachelor of Music Degrees in Piano and Organ Performance and Music Education from Jacksonville University in Florida. She has served as an organist and choir director in the Dioceses of St. Augustine\, FL and Rochester\, NY\, and the Archdioceses of Newark\, NJ and New York City\, NY\, and has served at three Roman Catholic Cathedrals. From 2007 to 2014\, Dr. Pascual was professor and Director of Music at St. Joseph’s Seminary in New York. She currently also serves as the Director of Music of the New York Archdiocesan Festival Chorale. \nFor many years\, Dr. Pascual has been a member of as well as served on the boards of several organizations pertaining to sacred music. She is a frequent recitalist\, clinician and adjudicator at national conventions. She was a finalist in the Florida First Coast Piano Competition\, participated in the Bach Aria Festival in New York\, the International Bamboo Organ Festival in Manila\, the Christmas International Festival in Moscow\, the Terra Sancta Organ Festival in Israel and Palestine\, and the Semaine de l’Orgue International Pipe Organ Festival in Lebanon. Dr. Pascual is a recipient of the Paderewski Medal and Theodore Presser Award. Jennifer has performed as an organist and conductor in Austria\, Belgium\, Canada\, Ireland\, Israel\, Italy\, Lebanon\, the Philippines\, Russia and the United States. \nAs the Director of Music of St. Patrick’s Cathedral\, Dr. Pascual had the privilege of overseeing all of the liturgical music for His Holiness\, Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to New York in 2008 in addition to conducting music for the Masses at St. Patrick’s Cathedral and Yankee Stadium. She conducted the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Choir for President Bush at the White House for National Day of Prayer. In December 2008 Dr. Pascual was named a Dame of the Order of St. Gregory the Great\, papal recognition of service to the Church. In September 2015\, Dr. Pascual conducted both the New York Archdiocesan Festival Chorale and the St. Patrick’s Cathedral Choir and orchestra during the Mass at Madison Square Garden celebrated by Pope Francis in 2015. She also conducted the music for Papal Vespers at St. Patrick’s Cathedral. He also serves as cantor for the Cathedral Parish\, as well as at major Archdiocesan events. He was a cantor/soloist for 100\,000+ in attendance and a worldwide television broadcast audience for the Papal Mass in St. Louis\, Missouri in 1999 and for 30\,000 in attendance at the Eucharistic Congress in St. Louis in 2001. He has toured as soloist throughout the United States\, Italy\, England\, Germany\, and Austria. His performances have included Verdi’s Requiem in Rome\, Italy; Hector Berlioz’s Te Deum in the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis\, and numerous performances of Handel’s Messiah as well as other oratorios including The Seven Last Words of Christ by Dubois at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church\, St. Louis\, MO\, as part of their 150th Anniversary celebration. He has also performed with Union Avenue Opera and the St. Louis Muny. In addition to singing\, Scott is the Executive Director of St. Louis Cathedral Concerts. \nJohn Powel Walsh fell in love with the beautiful Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and it’s mighty Kilgen Pipe Organ while attending the quarterly recitals given by Dr. Mario Salvador in the 1960s. Later in high school\, he had the opportunity to study on that same instrument with Dr. Salvador. John continued his study of organ with Dr. Ronald Arnatt at the University of Missouri\, Saint Louis where he completed his Bachelors degree in music. While completing his Masters degree in organ performance at Washington University he had the opportunity to study at the Harlem International Summer Academy for Organists in 1975. Additionally\, John studied conducting and voice coaching with Dr. Joseph Beck. The modern Vienna Boys Choir represents quite a departure from the composition of the original medieval choir of six boys.
