History & Past Artists

A Vibrant History

Saint Louis Cathedral Concerts was born in 1992 when Msgr. James Telthorst, Cathedral rector at the time, hired John Romeri as Music Director of the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis and, working together, they recognized the opportunity for the Cathedral to become a cultural landmark for the larger community beyond the Archdiocese of St. Louis.

Within a year, St. Louis Cathedral Concerts, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, was established to showcase exceptional musical artists and programs in the unique and inspiring Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. Selective and creative programming brought international, national and local artists, not duplicated in the area.

St. Louis Cathedral Concerts places emphasis on music composed to be performed in a space like the Cathedral, ensembles experienced in performing in such a setting and opportunities for educational outreach.

To date, St. Louis Cathedral Concerts has entertained and enlightened more than 225,000 audience members through its performances and educational programs.
