Pikes Peak Ringers will be teaching a handbell workshop on Saturday, June 4, at the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis.

The day will begin with a mass ringing session directed by Kevin McChesney, who will teach and review several different movement and presentation techniques, with Pikes Peak Ringers front and center to demonstrate.  PPR also will hold an “open rehearsal” during this session, led by assistant director Susan Hedgpeth, which will give the participants a behind-the-scenes look at how PPR learns and rehearses their music.

Next, the ringers will divide up into the first of three different breakout sessions to focus on the specific techniques of weaving, playing four-in-hand, and working with bass bells.  A special introductory class for beginners will be held at the end of the lunch hour, as well as a Director’s class.

The final mass ringing session of the day will give all of the participants the chance to put their new skills and techniques into practice while sight-reading several different pieces directed by McChesney, and the day will end with a mini-concert performed by PPR.
